Swimming Pool (Councillor Barry)
The new Brightlingsea Lido is now under a 50 yr leasehold agreement between TDC and BTC as from the 6th April 2018. This is the first time since 1974 that an asset previously held by Tendring has been returned to the Town Council. The project to refurbish the changing rooms and provide disabled facilities and access is well under way and the local community has shown its support with impressive numbers of volunteers attending work parties. On Saturday 14th April over 30 residents attended to help with painting and cleaning and the area is already looking much better, with the children’s pool being drained, cleaned and painting started. It is intended to utilise the forthcoming spell of good weather to drain the main pool, jet wash it and paint it prior to re-filling in the first week of May.
Will Jenkins has started in his role as Lido Manager and recruited lifeguards, arranged pool plant training and already demonstrated fine leadership and organisational skills in managing what is undoubtedly going to be a complex and challenging initial period.
Discussions are ongoing with Tendring regarding charges for last year and financial support for this year.
