This is early days for me and so this report is more about intended actions rather than actions completed.

In line with my stated terms of reference, my main thrust will concentrate on bringing together all Brightlingsea organisations, clubs and event initiatives to work together to formulate a common strategy for tourism to really put our town on the destination map. To start the fact-finding process I intend to set up meetings either individually or in small forum groups.

One such meeting has already taken place between myself and a Harbour Commissioner, Pamela Hatswell, who looks after the town / external affairs of BHC.

Specifically the purpose was to discuss the pros and cons of amalgamating the Discover Brightlingsea with the harbour’s Visitor Guide and Tide Tables.

At the July meeting I will be in a position to report further on this proposal to include the cost advantages as well as offering an editorial synopsis and a breakdown of the advertising revenue. With any joint publication there has to be a business plan, and that too will be included.

Also at the time I will have made progress with my meetings with those who look towards the Town Council to provide the lead on Tourism, and will report fully on that aspect.

Finally, I understand from Tracey that my predecessor has organised a stand at the Tendring Hundred Show which will be manned by Brightlingsea In Bloom, and I will visit the stand to offer support and to evaluate response.

My sincere thanks to the B in B team for taking this on.
