Tourism (Councillor Chasney)
Community Cinema Sponsorship
The Council will sponsor the showing of Mrs Lowry & Son on 3rd April. An advertisement is being prepared to be projected onto the screen. We are looking forward to a good attendance.
Visit Essex website
Under the umbrella of ECC, Visit Essex is the official tourism and destination management website for Greater Essex. Their principle purpose is to work in partnership with members to market and promote areas of the county as places to visit and ensure that we get your share!
Although BTC has been paying an annual subscription, weirdly very little information about our town and events has been submitted to this medium to be beamed out to potential visitors. Thus it could be said that we have been missing out to other destinations who have made full use of the site.
Cllr Chasney met with Cheryl Owen of Visit Essex earlier this week and in the next couple of weeks our Administrator will be providing information regarding key upcoming dates and I will provide details of the many events this town boasts on to the What’s On page.
We will report progress as time goes on.
Proposed Town Council Tourism website
In this digital age most people will go to the internet to find ways to fill their leisure time. It is important to retain a town guide, but in no way can this compete with the vast audience a website can generate.
I am proposing we develop a website titled ‘Discover Brightlingsea’, deliberately linking with the town guide. I am currently looking at development, maintenance costs, design and content.

Town Guide Progress
Collection of editorial entries and advertisements is now drawing to an end, and I would like to thank Tracey and Julie for their considerable efforts to get to where we are. The guide is scheduled to be out by late March in time for Easter.
Co-operation
A meeting has been arranged between Jill Herman of the Harbour Office and myself to discuss ways we can work together to promote tourism to Brightlingsea.
