Councillor Steady

Further to the message from Finance Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tom Howard, of the four working parties he has announced, I am part of the Environmental Working Party. One meeting held at the moment which was just to set the scene. Lots of analytical work to be carried out.

Councillors J Chapman, Steady and Yallop

Attended Full Council Meeting on Tuesday 6th September. The main topic was the recommendation of cutting the number of District Councillors from 60 to 48. This recommendation was made by a cross party working group. There was consternation on the night that what had been agreed by members of that working party was challenged by certain members of that group.   Four named votes were called for, but the proposal was agreed in the end.

Met with Chief Executive, Ian Davidson, on the 7th September, as part of his visits to every ward in the District. We discussed Essex County Council issues, i.e. pot holes, on the premise that more pressure would be put on Essex County Council by receiving communication from the Chief Executive. Tendring issues were raised, these included the paddling pool, toilets on the Western Promenade, swimming pool, railings on the beach, functions carried out by TDC – which could be carried out by the Town Council. It was agreed that we would have a meeting with Officers and the Chief Executive – date to be arranged, to actually ensure that action is taken, as it is acknowledged by Portfolio Holders and Officers that Brightlingsea has not had the investment it should have had, despite many assurances to the contrary.
