Report from Councillor Barry

I attended an Overview and Scrutiny committee meeting on 24th June where a programme for work was agreed for 2019-20.

The full council meeting scheduled for the 9th July was postponed due to a delay in formulating final budget figures, and this meeting will now be held on 6th August.

An emergency council meeting to deal with the Library issue was held on the 15th July.

Group meetings and correspondence on Brightlingsea issues (particularly wheelie bin roll out) are ongoing matters.

Report from Councillors Barry, Chapman and Steady

The following motion was proposed by the opposition at an extraordinary meeting of Tendring District Council on 15th July, it was adopted unanimously:-

COUNCILLOR IVAN HENDERSON’S MOTION TO COUNCIL PURSUANT TO COUNCIL PROCEDURE RULE 12 – “FUTURE OF ESSEX LIBRARIES SERVICES WITHIN THE DISTRICT OF TENDRING”

“The Council resolves that –

This Council is aware of the overwhelming public and political opposition, including that of MPs, to the closure or reduction in opening hours of any public library within the Tendring District.

This Council therefore calls on the Cabinet of Essex County Council as part of its decision on the future of Essex Libraries to rule out any closures or any reduction in opening hours of any public library within the Tendring District and to instead commit to concentrating on making better use of them as community hubs and to maximising the use of the buildings and sites in order to generate income for the library service.”
