Councillors Jayne Chapman, Graham Steady and Karen Yallop

Full Council Meeting – 7th July. Main issue discussed was street lights, the Leader of TDC reported that he had a meeting with Essex County Council to discuss plans to have the street lights turned back on in certain areas of Tendring. Suggested that the provision of street lights be devolved from Essex County Council to Tendring District Council. Discussions on going. Also looking at Electoral Review concerning Ward Boundaries which could lead to a reduction in Tendring Councillors.

Members’ Allowances were discussed. The administration proposed that the scheme should be kept as it is and that the Independent Remuneration Panel be asked to look at the whole scheme again due to the fact that there were 30 new Councillors elected at the last District Elections and also three extra portfolio holders. There were other options put forward, which would have resulted in a reduction of allowances. All three of us voted against the administration’s proposals as we supported the option which would have meant a saving of £7,582.00. Councillor Jayne Chapman asked the Finance Portfolio Holder the specific question of how much the extra portfolio holders would cost. The answer given was £21,389.00.
