Val Guglielmi has been elected the new Chairman of Tendring District Council (TDC).
Cllr Guglielmi, who represents Lawford, was selected at a meeting of the Full Council tonight (May 6) and will carry out the role until May 2015.
She takes over the post from Neil Stock, who is a former Leader of the Council, and Cllr Guglielmi was his Vice Chairman last year.
Fred Nicholls, who represents Thorrington, Frating, Elmstead and Great Bromley, was chosen as the new Vice Chairman for 2014/15.
Cllr Guglielmi has been a District Councillor since 2007 and is a past Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Service Development and Delivery Committee.
She was also a member of the Corporate Management Committee during 2013/14.
Cllr Guglielmi thanked Members of the Council for bestowing the honour of electing her as Chairman.
“I am very proud to have been elected and look forward to a busy year ahead of me,” she said.
“My theme for the next 12 months will be building a future for our young people in Tendring.”
Cllr Guglielmi also paid tribute to outgoing Chairman Cllr Stock and honoured the memory of his wife and consort, Cllr Sarah Candy, who died last month.
