Councillor V Chapman
EALC – I attended the meeting of the Essex Association of Larger Councils on the 28th February, 2019 at Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow.
We heard an excellent talk from Graeme Richardson from Harwich Lifeboat Station. He is the Area Lifesaving Manager there, and was accompanied by John Huggett, their Lifeboat Visit Officer. The talk was preceded by a very interesting and powerful video.
Cllr. Peter Davey then gave the NALC report (a copy is in the office if anyone would like to read it).
This was followed by a report on the SLCC from Mark Squire.
A presentation by Sally Utting from Adnams, on gin-making followed, with tastings.
To mark the last meeting before the retirement of Secretary, Linda Golding, a tribute was given by Joy Darby, before various gifts and cards were presented. During coffee prior to the start of the meeting, the usual delicious cakes were augmented by cup cakes, featuring Linda’s picture on them.
I was most delighted and surprised to be given a lovely Spring bouquet, to thank me for all the attendances I have made at the EALC meetings over the years.
A brief EALC up-date and time for questions in the Open Forum followed. However, due to the relaxed nature of this meeting, no questions were forthcoming, and the Chairman closed the meeting a little earlier than usual.
The next meeting will be held in Marks Tey Parish Council Hall on Thursday, 27th June, 2019 at 9.30 a.m., for coffee, followed by the meeting at 10 am until 12.30 p.m.
