Minute Number 001 – Questions from the Public.

Q1) Richard Price gave thanks to the Town Councillors, and also stated how impressed he was following the swimming pool meting. He said that that was the best meeting he had been to lately.

Q2) David Stone – At the Town Meeting the Music Festival stated that they have grown over the years by 80%. Does the Council not think it is time to move it back down the Promenade and stop causing chaos around Hurst Green for three days?

A2) The Mayor replied that he felt Hurst Green was the best place for this event, as it is easier to police an event on the green.   Councillor Barry declared an interest in this item, and then mentioned that, as member of the committee, they do canvas opinion of the residents who live around this area. They do realise that not everyone supports the event, however they do receive a lot of positive comments from around Hurst Green, commenting how well it is stewarded and managed, with only one arrest made over a few years. He stated that the committee pride themselves in managing it safely and responsibility, they have a high H&S team, and is unable to go back to the Promenade, due to security concerns, which made it move in the first place. Councillor Yallop mentioned that when she was growing up the Fair was always on Hurst Green and everyone loved it on the Green. The Music Festival is only three days out of 365 days, it is a very popular event, loads of people benefit from it, people walk through the town, so the shops benefit too. It would be a mistake if it was moved.
