Minute Number 161 – Questions from the Public.
Q1 – Councillor Gary Scott – Has Brightlingsea Town Council made contact with Essex County Highways over the water problem in Alresford/Thorrington on the B1027? In the past ECC has put sign and sand bags out, but the sand bags burst and put sand all over the road. ECC say it is the responsibility of the land owner to sort the problem out. Apparently the problem is caused by natural springs coming off the land, but no one is sure where the water is coming from. The reference number he had been given from ECC was 2205117.
Councillor V Chapman replied that this question had cropped up at the Councillor Surgery on Saturday. She did phone the police to ask if they could put warning signs out, but they said it was nothing to do with them. They suggested she contacted Tendring District Council, who advised her to contact Essex County Council. She did try to contact ECC but after 15 minutes no one had answered the phone.
The Mayor said that numerous e-mails had been sent to Councillor Louis, but no replies had been received. She then suggested that we contact Councillor Peter Martin direct, copying Councillor Kay Twitchen into the e-mail too.
