Minute Number 158 – Questions from the Public.
Q1 Richard Price – Now the Police Marine Unit is being axed, how is the harbour going to be policed? Also what effect will this have on the Emergency Plan?
Councillor Vivien Chapman replied that she has spoken to the Kent and Essex Marine Police who have confirmed things are changing. She has also spoken to Robin Cole of the Harbour Commissioners. Sgt Simon Lofty has been to Brightlingsea to visit the Harbour Commissioners and they have confirmed that they are keeping 5 officers and the facilities at Burnham-on-Crouch, and will be dealing with anti terrorism. The Marine Police covers the shore outwards, any other flooding is dealt with by the Environment Agency. She then mentioned the problem with Jet Skis and that there is no legislation – anyone can take out a jet ski. The Harbour Commissioners are arranging a meeting in the near future with Colchester Borough Council, Tendring District Council, Point Clear and Councillor Goggin to discuss this issue.
