Preliminary proposals have been drawn up for a new Waterfront Square opposite Colne Yacht Club in Brightlingsea. The project would be mainly funded from the EU as part of Intereg 5A and is one of a number of schemes in the town under the umbrella of SUFUSE – Sustainable Futures for Seaside Economies.

Cllr Ben Smith, Mayor of Brightlingsea said: “I am delighted that we have been able to find a relatively small amount of money to produce proposals for a new feature on the Brightlingsea Waterfront. We are hopeful of obtaining most of the money from SUFUSE but if this is not forthcoming the Town Council will look at other ways of funding the project.”

At this early stage the drawings are for illustrative purposes only and give a flavour of what might be constructed. Final details would be drawn up later following a public consultation. The Square would be subject to flooding during very high tides but it would be constructed from water-resistant materials.
