An expanding poultry operation in Brightlingsea has been given permission to build a new free-range unit.

The four-metre high shed will be 20 metres long by 10 metres wide on the site at Freelands Farm in Lower Farm Lane. The agricultural small holding already has several buildings and a seasonal worker’s mobile home and the surrounding land is used to graze sheep.

The site is within the open countryside beyond the settlement development limits of the town in the Coastal Protection Belt with views across Brightlingsea Creek.

Tendring District Council (TDC) gave the plans the green light after deciding the new building had been carefully sited with materials that would reduce any impact on the character and appearance of the area. There were no objections from Brightlingsea Town Council.
