Plans to turn Brightlingsea’s former police station into a museum have been approved by Tendring District Council (TDC).
The building in Station Road, Brightlingsea, closed down in 2015 after being run for some time on limited opening hours. The scheme put forward by Brightlingsea Museum includes a new side extension to the property in the town centre as well as a single storey detached storeroom.
TDC granted planning permission for the proposal which was also backed by Brightlingsea Town Council, provided a horse chestnut tree on the north west of the site was protected. A tree preservation order is now in place and a survey and report have also been provided by the applicant.
TDC decided that in the absence of any material harm resulting from the development it could go ahead.
