Final preparations are being put in place for an important event to get residents in Tendring ready for the winter.

By making a few arrangements now people can avoid problems later in the year caused by a variety of factors – including bad weather.

Tendring District Council’s Emergency Planning Team is playing its part with the third Get Ready for Winter event.

It will be held at the Park Pavillion in Barrack Lane, Harwich from 10am to 4pm on October 29.

Among those attending will be the Environment Agency; Met Office; Trading Standards; Essex County Fire and Rescue; Affinity Water and Anglian Water.

The initiative is also being held in partnership with Harwich Town Council and to support the Met Office and Cabinet Office’s national campaign which is being launched on October 21.

There will be a chance to pick up vital advice and tips on issues such as what to do when the temperature drops, the wind blows, there’s heavy rainfall, the snow falls and roads get iced up.

Nigel Brown, TDC’s Communications Manager, urged residents to turn up and find out more.

“It is a chance for residents to pick up some important tips to make sure they are prepared for the winter and what it can bring,” he said.

“There is so much people can do in advance to help look after yourself and others when the time comes.”
