On Monday 9th March a very successful ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth’ ceremony took place in the Brightlingsea War Memorial Gardens.

Prayers were said by Rev Anne Howson, Father Mark Swire, Rev Roger Crow and Rev Sandie Hicks, and George Stevens raised the flag at 10am.  The Mayor of Brightlingsea, Councillor Vivien Chapman, read a message from the Queen, followed by a message from the Commonwealth Secretary-General, and she led the Commonwealth Affirmation along with the Deputy of the Cinque Port Liberty,  Rob Bezkorowajny, and all who attended.

Pupils from all three local schools (Brightlingsea Infant, Brightlingsea Junior and the Colne Community School) spoke very well about the Commonwealth and a Commonwealth Country.  Thanks go to Peter Patrick who provided the sound system.
