High Sheriff visit to Brightlingsea

Part of High Sheriff’s Harwich to Tilbury walk around coastline. Trip from Point Clear to East Mersea.  Unscheduled call in to Brightlingsea.

Met HS with Mayor, Deputy Mayor, & Deputy of Cinque port.  Accompanied her on Ferry to Mersea.


Road works B1029 & B1027

Resurfacing.  Much needed

Much of work completed at night to avoid some disruption. Repairs at Thorrington Cross & Church Corner. Anticipated delays to traffic.

Not as bad as predicted by some.  No individual complaints to me.  Several compliments.


Fallen tree. Colne school wood.

Wood under control of ECC

Heavy winds. Sunday 26 July. Original works” making safe” carried out by Terry Hamilton.  Excellent.

AG joined him. Photo & report sent to Tendring Rangers on the Sunday

Steve Gove responded Mon morning.  All cleared in few days.  Great example of TDC & BTC & ECC working together.  Special mention for Terry Hamilton.

Resident not able to renew in advance

AG discovered existing concession from ECC. Will apply to many

Letters of support re grant application.  Urgent


Colne School expansion

Consultation period started

Residents concerns.  Mainly traffic related

Some calls from residents.  Less than I had expected

£10K grant received within 20 days

Appear to be working well.  Still COVID restrictions

Allow extra time for visit !


Notes from highway briefing

Circular sent to councilors via AG’s “clerk” system.

Speed & volume surveys – still temporarily suspended.

Felt that any results would not be truly representative.

Awaiting response from BTC re “Scooby snacks” junction.


B1027 overall speed review.

LHP initiative.

With support from 4 councils AG has campaigned for overall review of whole length over the last 3 to 4 years.

Still ongoing. Perhaps Autumn?

Expansion plans. Suggested he meet with BTC over possible junction changes.

Cllr Judson contacted, [thanks] and he visited. AG shared ECC details.  Good consultation.
