All Saints’ Church in Brightlingsea has been given the all-clear to expand the size of its cemetery by using a woodland area next to the existing churchyard.
Tendring District Council (TDC) has approved the plans and imposed three conditions which include a landscaping scheme in the interests of the surrounding area.
The main consideration was the impact of the proposal on existing trees and the nearby conservation area, and parking. TDC’s Principal Tree and Landscape Officer has suggested hedgerow planting along with new Elms on the edge of the site. It was also considered that there is enough parking for the current cemetery to cover both areas.
Brightlingsea Town Council made no comment on the application and there was just one letter of representation which opposed the extension as it was not needed.
TDC decided that there would be no material harm from the proposed development and gave it the green light.
