Brightlingsea’s beaches have once again proved themselves to be amongst the very best across the country after retaining prestigious Blue Flag status.

Dovercourt was the only other beach to achieve the accolade in Tendring; both also gained Seaside Awards for 2017 along with Frinton Beach; Harwich Beach; Martello Bay, Clacton; Walton’s Naze Beach and Walton’s Albion Beach.

All the awards are seen as a significant boost for the District’s tourist trade with the announcement coming just before the start of the main season. Nigel Brown, Tendring District Council’s Communications Manager, said that the Council is delighted to have retained the two Blue Flags at a time when it is getting much harder to do so.

“This is once again a coup for both Brightlingsea and Dovercourt Bay which have been justifiably recognised as being amongst the very best in the land once again,” he said.

“These awards are important but only one of the many reasons for people coming to visit their favourite resorts and beaches,” he added. “The tourist economy is worth £365 million a year to Tendring – £1 million per day – and this figure is on the rise from the previous year.”
