Alan Goggin of the Conservative Party has been elected to Essex County Council following the Brightlingsea division by-election on Thursday, October 9.

Alan, a who is also a Brightlingsea town councillor and represents the town on Tendring council, won the seat with a 167 majority.

The full results were:

Carol Wendy Carlsson Browne (Labour) – 524

  • Alan Goggin (Conservative) – 1,809
  • Beverley Ann Maltby (Green) – 200
  • Anne Poonian (UKIP) – 1,642
  • Gary Scott (Liberal Democrats) – 1,199

The turnout for the by-election was 36.43 %.

The by-election was held following the resignation of Roger Lord (UKIP) last month.
