Tendring Council’s Cabinet members are being recommended to approve a £130,000 refurbishment of the public toilets in Promenade Way, Brightlingsea.

The amenity was listed for upgrade in the future under the council’s Public Conveniences Strategy but was not in the first round of funding. However, additional funding from section 106 money – cash paid by developers for improvements in the area in which they build – has been identified for the scheme.

Mick Skeels, TDC Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said he would be backing the recommendations to his colleagues.

“Particularly in busy tourist areas such as Promenade Way in Brightlingsea it is important that our facilities are top-notch to encourage people to return, and I am glad funding has been found for this refurbishment,” Cllr Skeels said.
