Member with Special Responsibility for Tourism. I was born and raised in Brightlingsea and went to Brightlingsea Schools, part of the Gilders Family. I work locally and am a qualified Health and Safety Representative. As Member with Special Responsibility for tourism my first aim was to increase the circulation of the Town Guide. The contents now focus on the wide and varied aspects of our town and the surrounding area to appeal not only to day visitors but also those looking for a base for Short Breaks, all aimed at boosting our economy in support of local businesses. Prior to my election as a councillor only 5000 guides were printed, 3000 plus of which were circulated to local residences. I have increased the number printed year on year, and 2010; I together with our council staff will be distributing 14,000 guides throughout Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and beyond. We promote the town further by exhibiting annually at the Essex Tourism Show which has proved extremely successful, and also enabled us to create further outlets for our tourist information and literature via the other exhibitors. Resulting in a significant increase in visitor numbers year on year. I have secured advertising in the ‘Group Travel Magazine’ with a circulation of 9,872 Aimed at Clubs, Societies and organisers of Company days-out. I serve on the Brightlingsea Boat Show committee. This annual weekend event is extremely popular and very well attended bringing many visitors into the town. Our 2 Past & present Days offered a unique insight into Victorian Brightlingsea, 2008 focussing on Farming and agriculture and 2009 on the numerous and diverse businesses that flourished here throughout the 1800’s. The event will be repeated again in the near future. |
